In July 2021, the USA took part in the International Mathematics Competition for the first time in the 22 year history of the event. The competition takes place at two levels, elementary and middle school levels. The US had two middle school teams and one team at the elementary level. The week of activities included online cultural events and a 3D tic-tac-toe puzzle competition. Five of the 12 students representing the USA are from North Carolina, with other students from Texas, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Iowa. The coach and team leader of the US team was retired UNC Charlotte professor Harold Reiter. "I was thrilled and honored to be the coach of the US team. Meeting such incredible students was the highlight of the summer." The three four-student teams won two first runner-up trophies, one championship trophy, along with 5 gold medals and four bronze medals. The deputy leader was Connie Fung from Texas. The USA's participation was sponsored by the local LLC called Exotic Arithmetic. You can watch the final ceremony of the IIMC here. If you would like more information, please call (704) 999-9199.
