2025 State Mathematics Contest: Charlotte Region
The math department supports the North Carolina State Mathematics Contest. In 2025, students from Mecklenburg, Union County, and Cabarrus County converge on UNC Charlotte to participate in the Charlotte Regional Finals.
Competition Day is Wednesday April 30, 2025
Pre-registration
- In order to participate you must have scored in top 30 in the AK qualifying tests.
- All qualified students must register for the Finals. To register for the Charlotte Region State Mathematics Contest please use our Online Registration Form. Last day to register is April 17, 2025.
- There is no registration fee for the exam this year.
Program Schedule
Wednesday April 30, 2025
- 9:30 am – 10:30 am — Check-in at the lobby outside of McKnight Hall in the Cone University Center
- 10:30 am – 10:45 am — Orientation in McKnight Hall
- 11:00 am – 12:20 pm — Contest takes place in McKnight Hall
- 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm — Lunch: Students, parents, and teachers can purchase lunches by credit cards at Cone center (Panda Express and Subway) or South Village students cafeteria (buffet).
- 2:00 pm – 2:15 pm — Award Ceremony in McKnight Hall
Exam Instructions
What to bring for the tests:
Students need to bring HB or 2B pencils and erasers. No calculators of any kind are allowed for the tests
Parking:
Parking will be on a First Come-First served basis, please review the fee schedule here and reference the Campus Map for parking locations.
Fees and Expenses:
There is no registration fee. Lunch and parking fees are on your own.
Testing and Grading Procedures:
Testing will begin about 11 a.m. and last for 80 minutes. The examination will consist of 40 questions with five possible answers each. Contestants should work independently. Calculator use is not permitted during testing. The contestant’s score will be determined by counting the number of correct responses, multiplying the total by 4, and adding the number of blank responses to that total. In case of a tie, select problems will be used to determine the winner.
