Charlotte Victory at American Regions Mathematics League

On May 31st, 2025, 128 teams and over 1800 students from the United States, Canada, China and South Korea competed in the 2025 American Regions Mathematics League (ARML) competition. Team Charlotte, as a first-year team of middle and high schoolers, won Division B of the Southern Site. Three Pre-college Enrichment Program students Leo Hong, Henry Wang, and Ishan Sundaram who have taken multiple math classes in our department earned recognition for highest scores on the team.
Established in 2024, Team Charlotte is a mathematics team in Charlotte, NC. Team Charlotte is open to all NC students who are interested in high school math competitions at the national level. Dr. Tao Hong, Duke Energy Distinguished Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering and NCAEC Faculty Fellow of Energy Analytics is the Head Coach of the team. Dr. Harold Reiter, Emeritus Professor of Mathematics is the Assistant Coach.
Several Charlotte professors have been supporting the team throughout the year by delivering research seminars at the team practices, such as Dr. Duan Chen (Professor of Mathematics), Dr. Monica Johar (Professor of Business Information Systems), and Dr. Zheming Gao (Assistant Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering).
