Week 1 Review of straight lines, functions and their graphs, the algebra of functions
Week 2 Functions and mathematical models; Limits, one-sided limits and continuity
Week 3 The derivative, basic differentiation, product and quotient rules
Week 4 More product/quotient rules, chain rule, Marginal functions in economics (suffices to cover marginal cost, revenue, and profit); higher order derivatives (briefly)
Week 5 Applications of the first derivative, review for test 1, Test 1
Week 6 Applications of the second derivative, curve sketching
Week 7 Optimization
Week 8 Exponential functions, logarithmic functions (emphasize base e), compound interest (optional)
Week 9 Differentiation of exponential functions, differentiation of logarithmic functions
Week 10 Exponential functions as mathematical models (or some other mathematical models), antiderivatives and rules of integration, review for second test
Week 11 Test 2; Integration by substitution
Week 12 Area and the definite integral,, the fundamental theorem of calculus
Week 13 Evaluating definite integrals (using substitution), area between two curves; Applications of the definite integral to business and economics (optional, but consumers’/producers’ surplus is nice)
Week 14 Review for third test; Test 3
Week 15 Review for final exam
Week 16 Final exam
