Alma and Sharon Goudes Educational Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Alma Stettler Goudes and Sharon Goudes to recognize and support students pursuing study within the College of Education. This scholarship was made possible by the generous contribution of Nicholas T. Goudes.

Scholarship Requirments:
  • Eligible Major(s): Mathematics, English, Middle Grades Education or Graduate Certificate in Teaching
  • Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Certificate
  • Mathematics & English Majors: Minor in Secondary Education
  • Middle Grades Education Majors: Concentrations in Math & Language Arts, Science & Language Arts. Language Arts & Social Studies, Math & Science, Social Studies & Math, Mathematics, or English
  • Graduate Certificate in Teaching Majors: Concentrations in English Language Arts, Middle Grades Mathematics, English Secondary Education, or Math Secondary Education
  • Demonstrated excellent academic achievement
  • English and Math major applicants must be concurrently enrolled in the Department of Middle, Secondary, and K-12 Education with the intent of obtaining teaching certification
  • Preference to students who intend to teach middle school Math or English in a secondary school in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

Dr. Kim Harris Legacy Scholarship for Math Scholars


  This scholarship was established to mark the retirement of Dr. Kim Harris ’19 and to celebrate the accomplishments of her 39-year career at UNC Charlotte. The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship support to students who may not ordinarily qualify for scholarships and who best meet the following criteria:

  •  Sophomore, junior, or senior
  • Enrolled in a degree program within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics; 
  • Cumulative GPA between 2.5 and 3.25; 
  • Preference will be given to students who are single parents with child(ren) who meet the following criteria: (1) the child is under the age of 18; (2) the child is related as a son, daughter, stepchild, foster child, brother, sister, stepbrother, stepsister, or a descendant of any of those; and (3) the child has lived with the applicant for at least half the year.

Fiechtner Scholarship

This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to students pursuing study in Mathematics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering. This scholarship was made possible by the generous contribution of Mark and Pam Fiechtner.

  • Major(s): Math, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • Demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid
  • Junior or Senior
  • College GPA = 2.80-4.00

Jerry E. Vaughan Endowed Scholarship in Mathematics

 Dr. Vaughan is establishing this scholarship with the intention and hope that a new generation of students receiving the scholarship will be inspired to diligently fulfill their academic potential, taking full advantage of their UNC Charlotte experience.

Math Escrow Student Scholarship

Dr. Reiter has been a math faculty member at UNC Charlotte for over 45 years. During that time, he has worked with gifted sixth and seventh-grade students who have shown an aptitude for taking college-level courses. These students have competed in the UNC Charlotte Super-Competition and the North Carolina State Math Competitions. Dr. Reiter, who has represented UNC Charlotte at the North Carolina State Math Competition, has also rewarded several of the student competitors by offsetting the costs of their accelerated classes at UNC Charlotte. Dr. Reiter will retire in December 2019 and would like to establish a scholarship that can continue to benefit these students. The purpose of the fund is to provide two or more annual scholarships of $ 1,000 each to gifted and talented middle and high school students who wish to take college-level math courses at UNC Charlotte.

Pearce Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Lynn Hauser Pearce, Assistant Professor of Mathematics at UNC Charlotte, to recognize and support students pursuing study in Mathematics within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. This scholarship was made possible by the generous contribution of The Hauser Family.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Major(s): Mathematics
  • Demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid
  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
  • College GPA = 2.50-4.00
  • Demonstrated excellent academic achievement
  • Evidence of extracurricular activities, including community service, campus involvement, or work experience

Robert Anderson Scholarship 

The Robert Anderson Scholarship was established to recognize the remarkably positive impact Bob had on his students and on the actuarial science program at UNC Charlotte. It is funded by alumni of the program.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Full-time student in the upcoming fall semester with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher
  • Working on a Math Degree or a Math for Business Degree with a Concentration in Actuarial Science 
  • Currently enrolled in or already took Math 3228: Actuarial Science IB
  • Interested in passing actuarial exams

Women in Math and Statistics Scholarship

Marie Josee Mukamwiza, a 2005 graduate of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at UNC Charlotte, wishes to establish this fund to provide support and encouragement to women pursuing math degrees. The purpose of the fund is to provide an annual, non-renewable scholarship to a Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Mathematics with a Statistics Concentration, or Mathematics with an Actuarial Concentration.
